Keith Tufts

Principal Architect MRAIC, NSAA, AANB, AAPEI, LEED AP

Keith Tufts has a national reputation as a leader in sustainable, cultural and institutional design.

Keith recently completed the $30M LEED Gold Dalhousie University Fountain School of Performing Arts, featuring a 308 seat Recital Hall, new rehearsal, practice and costume study studios.  Conceived of as cultural cathedral, the Recital Hall is designed as a naturally acoustic showpiece for Dalhousie University, as well as a jewel in the crown of the Nova Scotian artistic and cultural communities. The solar powered Recital Hall has been designed and detailed as a world class acoustic environment, attending to room acoustics, acoustic isolation and noise control to provide an exceptional acoustic environment for live performances.  As part of the project the team also renovated the existing Dal Arts Centre and the Rebecca Cohn Auditorium.

Keith previously led the sustainable designs for the award-winning Seaport Farmers’ Market, a LEED Platinum ecological showcase on the Halifax waterfront, as well as one of Nova Scotia’s greenest recreational facilities, the $35M LEED Gold Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre, featuring the new South Shore main library, a 1,200 seat concert venue/arena and a solar powered three-pool aquatic facility.

Keith has a varied design background in architecture, design and cultural industries. Keith has designed and built award-winning performance venues, radio and television broadcast facilities, community farmer’s markets, public libraries, recreational facilities, student hubs and higher education facilities.  Keith has also received awards both as a web designer and for his work with top Canadian recording artists.
